Portable technologies are helping redefine the mandate for least restrictive environment and boosting student independence. With portable technologies students who had been anchored in special education and resource rooms may now be mainstreamed and included in the general classroom. This session will include demonstration of free tools that attendees will be able to use immediately upon return to their workplace.

Talking out of school
This is an overview of implementing speech recognition software for high school students. The presentation will cover Dragon Naturally Speaking for PC computers and Dragon Dictate for Macintosh computers. Other options that will be discussed are Windows 7 built-in speech recognition and the program Speak Q.

This workshop will focus on low cost assistive technology that can be sued to help elderly individuals maintain their independence in the home and community at large.
