Fight for Access to Wheelchairs and other Critical Medical Equipment
Thursday, August, 21, 2014, 3:00pm to 4:00pm ET ( TODAY!) BACKGROUND: Due to the implementation of the second round of the Competitive Bidding Program by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) July 1, 2013, thousands of individuals with disabilities have reported access problems including longer hospital stays, delays in the delivery of wheelchairs, and medical equipment suppliers refusing to provide critical equipment. CMS also conducts audits on suppliers which is hindering the ability of suppliers to provide service and equipment to people with disabilities.
Two pieces of legislation can address these issues. Jay Witter and Peter Rankin from AAHomecare are going to outline how HR 4920 (Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Improvement Act) and HR 5083 (Audit Improvement and Reform Act) will prevent more local providers from shutting down and limiting your access to medically-necessary wheelchairs and medical equipment. Jay Witter and Peter Rankin will highlight important provisions of the bills, their legislative histories, and plans for passage.
With both the bidding program and the audit process, many supplier businesses are scaling back services and inventory stock or close down entirely, causing people with disabilities to go through the process of finding a new supplier and having to obtain new medical documentation paperwork to get their needed supplies, medications and medical equipment. It's time to put an end to this policy once and for all!AUDIENCE: Wheelchair users and advocates, Medicaid and Medicare recipients, healthcare professionalsPlease click here to register: Fight for Access to Wheelchairs and Other Critical Medical Equipment Thursday, Aug 21, 2014 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
